Case Study

Client: Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure

Project: Chalmers Street Substation

Abergeldie engaged Flomar to assist in the delivery of the largest substation in Australia (electrical output) on a variety of fronts including;

  • Construction of cut and cover cast in situ concrete tunnels including bulk earthworks and all FRP (Form, Reo, Pour) works
  • Installation of RCP Stormwater Drainage pipes and pits
  • Installation of complex underground substation conduit routes for HV / LV cabling
  • Foundation preparations
  • Installation of subsoil drainage
  • Pavement construction (Not including Asphalt layers)
  • Pile Breakdown
  • Installation of large box culverts (4.6m wide by 3m high) including waterproofing (membrane tanking system, joint sealant, hydrocor installation, grouting)

Over the course of the project a total of 38 unidentified services (not on DBYD or DSS) were unearthed. Through the skill and expertise of our seasoned operators and spotters Flomar completed the entirety of the excavation works for this project without a single service strike.

Due to lengthy delays as a result of several heritage finds the project was under significant pressure to recover program. Flomar were able to assist in this endeavour through rapid re-mobilisations of required resources following approval to continue construction, resulting in a highly satisfied client.
